About the Blogger

Amateur Astronomy is one of my interests/hobbies. I read

most of the books on outer space that my school library had in 4th and 5th grade, then never pursued it until my girlfriend (now my lovely wife) bought me a telescope for Christmas 2006 and a nice book on using it and navigating the constellations. It's a Meade 70 mm diameter f/10 refractor. I'm slowly getting into astrophotography, the major hurdles being time and money of course.

Los Angeles County may not seem like a very good location for attempting

observations of the night sky, due to the heavy light pollution emanating from the metropolis. However, the location I set up at is in the darker Palos Verdes Peninsula, which has excellent dark sky pointing away from the inland lights towards the southwest (i.e. towards the ocean). Also, there are few streetlights in that area. So it's just around the northeastern horizon that gets faded out somewhat.
