The results of a very exciting near-infrared study of the Milky Way's central stars many years in the making has been recently released that helps to prove the long foretold and mathematically predicted existence of a supermassive black hole at our galaxy's center. I heard about it first when I visited the site for the Astronomy Picture of the Day today (if today is not December 11, 2008, then the link for that day's picture is here: 12/11/2008) Visiting the site every day is one very good way to stay current with the latest breakthroughs in the discovery of our universe.
Anyways, they have posted several videos of the stars orbiting about the point where the black hole exists (you cannot see it of course!), along with some scientists talking about the discovery and work going into it. The videos are found here: European Organisation for Astronomical Research in the Southern Hemisphere (ESO).
But, I also thought that it would be really cool to have a video of the black hole at the center of our galaxy on my new cell phone (the video feature on the phone a biproduct of recently upgrading to AT&T). I converted two of the videos to the 3GP mobile phone video format. Download them here: 0.5 MB, 25 sec 3.9 MB, 3 min
