Venus Visually Close to Jupiter
2.1.2008  12:08

I noticed a couple mornings ago that the two planets Venus and Jupiter appeared very close together in the sky, and that their closest visual approach to each other should be occurring within the next few days, so I made a mental note to find out when they would be closest. (Close in the sense that they can both be seen in the same telescope view). However, I didn't get around to investigating the exact time until today, and it shows that I just missed it! The Venus and Jupiter closest approach was just this morning at roughly 5 AM PST (UTC-8).

The time of the images is 13:30 UTC, as seen from Torrance, CA. Unfortunately I have yet to report any actual observations in this blog :(
This shows that observing outer space phenomena is not a simple matter and requires diligence.
